Many websites try to take people over 50 into account by keeping the website as simple as possible. Yet this does not meet the target group’s wishes at all. A survey among 21,000 over-50s shows that 83.2% of people want to be challenged interactively.
Thijs van Halteren, founder of 50plusser.nl, has a good idea of what his target group is longing for. To him, having respect for your visitor means that you take into account the maximum learning curve of a person in new developments. He sees that many people over 50 who grew up without a computer adapt in no time. Many spend at least three hours a week to master new opportunities. And once they get it, this group is also very active. They publish, comment, edit photos and post gadgets. This is fully in line with the results of the study: interactivity on the internet is most important to people over 50. They prefer a challenge to a simplified website.
