With nearly 1.7 million new diagnoses and 520,000 deaths recorded in 2012 alone, breast cancer is the most common type of cancer and the second leading cause of cancer-related death among women worldwide. It accounts for approximately 12 per cent of all cancer diagnoses, with 1 in 8 women likely to develop invasive breast cancer during their lifetime.
