Did you know that a lot of consumer tech gadgets and trends are often the result of military research and development projects? Breakthrough technologies such as GPS and the underlying architecture of the Internet, for instance, were both developed by DARPA, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, to assist the military, and they eventually found their way into to the civilian world.
