What if this action is connecting to a dataset and removing a bunch of sensitive records?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The scale and speed at which agents operate mean that mistakes can propagate faster and further than any human error ever could. Marina Danilevsky, a senior research scientist at IBM, emphasises this amplification effect: \u201cTechnology doesn\u2019t think. It can\u2019t be responsible. The scale of the risk is higher. Perhaps most troubling is how these systems can erode trust even when they&#8217;re working correctly. Gartner <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/over-40-agentic-ai-projects-will-be-scrapped-by-2027-gartner-says-2025-06-25\/#:~:text=June%2025%20%28Reuters%29%20,to%20a%20report%20by%20Gartner\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">projects<\/a> that over 40% of agentic AI projects will be abandoned by 2027, not necessarily because the technology fails, but because organisations struggle with cost overruns and unclear value propositions. The gap between what agents can theoretically accomplish and what they actually deliver in messy, real-world environments often proves wider than anticipated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Preparing for an agentic future<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>Building trust in digital delegation<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So how do we move forward? Designing mechanisms for rollback actions and ensuring audit logs are integral to making these agents viable in high-stakes industries.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The numbers tell an interesting story about enterprise adoption. This isn\u2019t about replacing human intelligence, though; it\u2019s about extending it into places we\u2019ve never been able to reach before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The early adopters are already discovering what this feels like in practice. There\u2019s something oddly liberating about delegating the mental overhead of modern life to systems that don\u2019t get tired, don\u2019t forget, and don\u2019t mind handling the tedious coordination that eats away at our time and attention. Yet there\u2019s also something unsettling about trusting important decisions to entities that operate according to logic we don\u2019t fully understand. As we learn to live and work alongside these autonomous systems, we\u2019re essentially learning to be managers of intelligence rather than just users of tools \u2013 a shift that will require new skills, new trust relationships, and perhaps most importantly, new ways of thinking about what it means to be in
